Scoliosis

While the cause of Scoliosis is unknown, aside from conditions like cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, it is described as the sideways curvature of the spine. It is a progressive condition. While most cases are mild, some cases end up being on the more severe side as one ages. Scoliosis can be very disabling, and with the pressure it can cause within the chest, it can make it difficult for the lungs to function correctly. Some symptoms of Scoliosis include uneven shoulders, uneven waist, uneven hip alignment, and one shoulder blade protruding more than the other.

Treatment can address an adolescent that is having the formation of curves to help slow progression and prevent symptoms, a teenager who is going through growth and awaiting completion of bone growth to prevent rapid changes of the spinal curves, it can be in conjunction with bracing, before or after a surgery.  Adult onset scoliosis occurs with menopause, hormone changes or neurologic conditions which is another type of scoliosis that can be treated.  We can help address any pain or symptoms with therapeutic modalities (cold pack, hot pack, ultrasound, not while still growing), massage, soft-tissue or joint mobilization also called manual therapy.  Posture alignment therapy can help with the posture deviations to help slow, stop or even reverse progression.

We understand that when someone has Scoliosis, it can greatly impact their daily routines and lifestyle. Our team is looking forward to alleviating any pain or discomfort you may have while teaching you methods you can use on your own as well.
